Locations
Bittersweet was founded in Whitehouse, Ohio in 1983 and has since expanded its groundbreaking farmstead model to three locations across Northwest Ohio: Whitehouse, Pemberville, and Lima.
Bittersweet Farms- Whitehouse, Ohio
Our original location, Bittersweet Farms sits on 80 acres of wooded farmland in the Oak Openings region. Here, we offer residential and vocational services for adults with autism and social/recreational services for adolescents and adults on the spectrum.
The Whitehouse location is home to Bittersweet’s historic barn, the Bittersweet Gardens program with its many hoop houses and green houses, the Market at Bittersweet Gardens retail storefront, the Bittersweet Creative Arts studio, the Bittersweet Culinary commercial kitchen, six residential homes, an outdoor pavilion and pool, and Bittersweet’s central administrative offices and maintenance facilities.
Betty’s Farm- Lima, Ohio
Bittersweet’s most spacious farmstead, Betty’s Farm sits on 88 acres in Allen County. At Betty’s Farm, we offer an array of services for individuals on the autism spectrum, including adult day programming and social/recreational programming for adolescents and adults.
The main building at Betty’s Farm is a home that has been converted into programming space. The property also includes an activity building used for arts and crafts, an attached greenhouse, and a small barn. The abundant outdoor space at Betty’s Farm boasts raised beds for gardening, a pergola, picnic area, fire pit, and more.
Bittersweet Pemberville- Pemberville, Ohio
Bittersweet’s Pemberville farmstead rests on ten acres of farmland in rural Wood County. Here, we offer transitional services for adolescents with autism as well as adult residential services.
Our Pemberville location boasts a residential home, an educational building with classroom space, a small greenhouse, and a pasture and small barn for animal care.
