Press Release: National Special Olympian and Bittersweet Farms Resident Trains at Wolf Creek YMCA
Whitehouse, OH… Beth Meyer, long-time resident of Bittersweet Farms and renowned Special Olympian, will represent Ohio in swimming at the 2022 USA Summer Games. The competition will be held in Orlando, FL from June 4-12, 2022.
A decorated Special Olympian in both swimming and skiing, Beth has competed in both sports for decades at the state level and considers her gold medals one of the greatest accomplishments of her life. At 60, Beth is one of the oldest athletes selected to compete nationally in swimming.
Beth currently trains weekly at the Wolf Creek YMCA in Maumee, Ohio thanks to the generous support of the Greater Toledo YMCA. She is working on distance and endurance skills to prepare to compete in the 50 Meter Freestyle, 50 Meter Breaststroke, and 100 Meter Freestyle events. Beth says of her training, “My training has been going great! I have been enjoying the YMCA facility and I am looking forward to the Games!”
As Beth travels south to compete, she will bring plenty of local support along with her. Kelley Watson of Lucas County Special Olympics says of Beth’s accomplishments, “Beth has been with our program for over 30 years and she has always dreamed of being part of the national competition. This is truly a dream come true for her!”
